Stories
Hey all:
I’m working on your mid-terms now. We’ll have some things to discuss in class later today. There were good spots followed by some bad spots. But it was your first time through, so we have some work to do.
As for your stories, remember that I will need the following:
- Your pitch
- Your original, edited and final drafts
- Notes from your critique partner
You will be graded on each element. You should also be working on your second story now. There are six weeks left, I think, and you have two stories remaining + the final.
Stories
Hey all:
You should be near finished with your first five stories. Remember, you’ll need to turn in:
- Pitches
- Stories (complete with original, drafts, ect)
- Critique from your partner
- MP3 files for all the stories (30-40 seconds)
You should have a good idea about what you want to do for your 5-package story. Remember, 2 of those stories need to have embedded quotes within them — so if you need to reserve a digital audio recorder, get in touch with Bob.
JOU 220 Test
Hello all:
Here’s the deal. Please go to the PR Newswire site (hopefully you remember that from your proficiency exam). Then go to the Multimedia -> Video, Audio and Multimedia News section and look for this story:
MULTIMEDIA NEWS RELEASE - YMCAs To Help Americans Keep Their New Year’s Resolutions In Support Of Health
This is the story you will be writing.
- You must turn in your final copy by 605 pm.
- You will email the copy to my Gmail address (another other address will not count).
- You will save your file as lastname_midterm.doc - and you will cut and paste your copy into the body of the email, in case your document doesn’t open.
- You will have one body graf comprised of contextual information that you have gathered from outside research, attributed properly.
You will be grades on:
- Structure (do you have all the elements)
- Writing (AP Style)
- Research
- Format (Word, name)
Essentially, you are being graded on the practical application of the proficiency tests. Good luck.
For Those Interested in Social Media…
I’ll be posting at The Modern Journalist during my trip to SXSW Interactive and the SPJ Region 4 Conference in Pittsburgh.
I’ll be keeping a running list of new social media applications — along with thoughts and analysis of how the media sphere is changing, or will change, because of these. If you’re down with that, try to keep up. I may even have some audio and video up as well.
Lab Hours
I’ll be leaving for Austin on Wednesday in the afternoon, which means we’ll only have lab on Monday this week.
MIN 252 kids - please make sure you have a demo ready for me to see by Thursday; JOU 220 kids - please make sure you are ready for your mid-term, which will be posted on Thursday.
Please sign up.
