Hey y’all:

A question filtered up tonight + I thought I’d clear that up for you.

All of  your responses to the readings will go on your PBWiki page. You’ll respond once a week there + you’ll comment on someone’s wiki.

The blogs we’re building will be for your final project. You will be testing things out there + then deleting them and such. Do not use the blog for your reading responses.

I caused this confusion. That is my bad. Hopefully this clears it up :)

Hey y’all:

As you’ve no doubt heard, classes are canceled today. That means your proficiency exams aren’t due today. They will be due in the next class. We’ll move Tuesday back to Thursday:

  • read Chapter 11 (Digging for Information)
  • in-class work on sources and databases that reporters use
  • discussion on how to find sources
  • DUE: Story Structure, Pitching and Newsworthiness Proficiency Exams

The Research and Sources test will be moved back + we’ll discuss the new adjusted schedule on Thursday.

Enjoy your day. Stay safe!

Hey y’all:

As one of our resident experts in class pointed out to me today, FileZilla actually works on Macs too.

You can download it here.

Hey y’all:

Nice job in the lab. I think most of us got up and running; however, if you didn’t, we’ll have about 20 minutes in class on Wednesday to get you there.

On Wednesday (or before), I’ll need you to add your URL to the Student Websites page on the Wiki (again, in alphabetical order by last name).

Also, I’m missing some student Wiki pages where you’ll post your blogs + comment on other folks thoughts. Remember, this is due ON WEDNESDAY — the page + your reading comments.

Here is the list of people who haven’t added their pages to the MIN 186 Wiki homepage:

  • Brewer
  • Cash
  • Herzog
  • Klein
  • Smadi

Hey y’all:

Make sure you are putting your Wiki site up in alphabetical order (by last name). If not, we have an issue :)

Hey y’all:

My upgrade is complete so we should be up and runnign on the blog again.

We’ve added a host of files and tutorials to the Wiki site for this week. You can access them at the class PBWiki. Don’t forget to add your Wiki page to the MIN 186 Main page as well (you’ll see where the other students have added theirs).

The new pages include:

  1. The tutorials for Registration + FTP’ing your site
  2. Getting started with your blog
  3. Administering your blog
  4. Using your Dell Mini

Hey y’all:

I’ll be upgrading my site today so it might be wonky for the next hour or so. Rest assured, we’ll be back online soon!

Hey y’all:

Thanks to Ashley G. today for pointing out the fact that the Web Presence hosting at lamphost is $9.95 PER MONTH, not per year. So if you’re looking for that “per year” charge…uh, yeah, sorry. The update has been made to the tutorial.

I. am. an. idiot.

Sorry for any confusion I created.

Hey y’all:

A couple of you left a question on the wiki. If you have registered your domain and it hasn’t shown up in the dashboard where you set up your FTP, simply send a note to the SUPPORT folks and ask them when it’s going to show up. They’ll tell you :)

B.

Hey y’all:

Just a reminder, you can check out Monday’s assignments here in this post. The link to the class Wiki is there.

You’ll need to:

  1. register your domain name and sign up for the web presence hosting (and if you want you can download the WordPress software too).
  2. start your Wiki page in the student section, following my directions.
