Hey y’all:

The 5-week syllabus is now up on the Wiki, which means you have access to every lecture, tutorial and rubric in the class. Make sure to check it all out and get a sense of what we’ll be doing for the next 11 classes.

Lots of work. But lots of fun.

Hey y’all:

Make sure that your links for the wikipage are UNDER the TEST PAGE on the Wiki.

The Student Websites section is where your websites will go. (Your websites are the domain names — sometimes called Uniform Resource Locator, or URL.)

We’re going to go over definitions again on Thursday.

  • Uniform Resource Locator (URL)
  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
  • Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
  • client = your computer
  • server = a computer that stores files accessed by HTTP
  • text editor = any program that you can use to open a web file (.php, .html, .htm)

Hey y’all:

Just a reminder from today:

  • cluetrain manifesto intro-chapter 2 for thursday (however this week your Wiki response and your comment on someone else’s Wiki isn’t due until SATURDAY. Following this week, responses will be graded on Friday after 5 pm); PLEASE read the Test Page on the wiki for font sizes
  • please set up your own wiki page and alphabetize by FIRST name
  • please try to set up your wp-config.php file (with the four pieces of data lamphost.net should have sent you in your email; if you haven’t received that file by tomorrow, please send me an email with your domain name and email address you registered)
  • if you are game, please try to upload your WordPress file to your server. We’ll check it out on Thursday)

I will be updating the syllabus by the end of this week. Also, please make sure to read all the documents at www.thedudeman.net in the NKU Class Documents section. This will give you a good idea of what to expect.

On Thursday, please bring a hard copy of your Wiki (if you’ve written it) or your notes from the reading as — if it’s nice outside — we will be sitting outside.

We will also work on THEMES, WIDGETS and POSTING using the Content Management Systems (CMS), which you know as WordPress :)

It’s not really that scary although it seems that way at first.
