Hello all:

Thanks for coming out to the presentation today. Very grateful that you took time out of your busy (and holiday-laden) schedules.

You can grab a PDF of the presentation here.

Hello Students:

The presentation grades are in :)

Those who are doing the alternate assignments, please remember that ALL three need to be turned in for you to receive credit. You can’t pick + choose or you will receive no credit for them.

That said, I feel confident that everyone has the chance to pass.

**DOUBLE UPDATE**

There are 8 people who so far have decided to vote on the Alternate Assignment. It is a Race to Five(if my math of 15 people total to begin is correct).

Opt Outs (So Far): Here are the folks who have said they are good with their current grade status + won’t partake in the Alternate Assignment option. That means we are down to 11 people who have the option to choose an assignment to boost their grade. Remember, you don’t have to participate if you don’t want to. (Also, please remember that I don’t operate on the +/- system, per my syllabus.)

Please let me know if you would like to opt out. My recommendation is that if you are in the 78-82 range, and you trust your group, you opt out. There is little benefit to you. It’s possibly you MAY reach the “A” range. But it’s an outside shot. However, I want you to have that option.

Hello Students:

Please remember that there is a substantial point penalty within the class grading structure for those who do not attend PIR lectures. I would encourage you to revisit the syllabus to find the exact penalty.

Here is the most current list that I have:

Hello Students:

For those of you who have Bs (and you can check Blackboard for that grade), you can simply opt out of the decision if you are willing to take you chance with the class decision.

I suggest coordinating through here or you can email me and I’ll put you all together.

Hello Students:

All of your grades are posted. Please peruse.

Also, I have a list of three alternate assignments in relation to the earlier post about those people with Cs or below. I encourage you to organize with each other to develop your own plan (reference the class Wiki, for instance, on the papers).

But just in case, you can expect crunchy goodness on Tuesday as your final decision will need to be to me on Thursday.

Hello Students:

For those of you with Cs or below (and remember, you lose 5 points off your FINAL grade for every unexcused absence that you have), I will offer you this end-of-the-semester olive branch:

If you can come up with a reasonable assignment or task, which a majority of the class can agree upon, I am willing to accept your argument for a 5 percentage point individual assignment to be due by the end of week 16 (which is the LAST week of class). Five points is as high as I am willing to go; however, if you have a mid-level grade (C, D, or F), you will have the opportunity to raise your final grade by one letter.

Here are the stipulations:

  1. Everyone who is going to do this assignment will do the same assignment.
  2. There is no partial credit. You either complete the assignment to satisfaction or you receive no points.
  3. A majority of your classmates must approve of your assignment.
  4. Nobody with an A or a B can complete the assignment.

Obviously I have the final say over whether the assignment is worthy of 5 points. So I would make the assignment challenging. For those of you who skipped a class or failed to turn in an assignment, this is your opportunity for redemption of some measure. I will expect a decision from you by Thursday.

Hello Students:

We will go over the final presentations + papers on Tuesday at the start of class. Some initial thoughts:

  • Group Presentations: you will base your final case study on a real event. You will present that to the class however you choose, as long as you make sure you touch on the same elements we have done in the class all year. You will have 15-17 minutes for your presentation. We will do 3 groups per day.
  • Final Papers: Your final papers will be due by the end of the exam time scheduled for our class. Hard copy. In my hand. Following the guidelines of the class.
