Ethics: Those With Cs

Hello Students:

For those of you with Cs or below (and remember, you lose 5 points off your FINAL grade for every unexcused absence that you have), I will offer you this end-of-the-semester olive branch:

If you can come up with a reasonable assignment or task, which a majority of the class can agree upon, I am willing to accept your argument for a 5 percentage point individual assignment to be due by the end of week 16 (which is the LAST week of class). Five points is as high as I am willing to go; however, if you have a mid-level grade (C, D, or F), you will have the opportunity to raise your final grade by one letter.

Here are the stipulations:

1. Everyone who is going to do this assignment will do the same assignment.
2. There is no partial credit. You either complete the assignment to satisfaction or you receive no points.
3. A majority of your classmates must approve of your assignment.
4. Nobody with an A or a B can complete the assignment.

Obviously I have the final say over whether the assignment is worthy of 5 points. So I would make the assignment challenging. For those of you who skipped a class or failed to turn in an assignment, this is your opportunity for redemption of some measure. I will expect a decision from you by Thursday.
