Updated Syllabus
Apparently I forgot that we have Fall Break and Thanksgiving
So I have updated all the syllabi for my classes. You should check them out.
MIN 352: Readings
These are a little late. They are short.
MIN 352: Surveys
Hey all:
Don’t forget to post your surveys and then EMAIL THE GROUP your link. I have only seen two of these (but I don’t have to see them). Make sure that you do this because tomorrow you’ll be presenting what you’ve learned!
The Greatest 12 Of All Time
Hey all:
We’re going to be discussing some things this week that only seem peripherally related to our classes. Here’s one of them:
Availability This Week…Not So Much
Hey all:
Normally I’m around throughout the week; however, I have a presentation and some writing that needs to get done so I won’t be on campus much.
- I will not be on campus on Monday or Wednesday (my office hours will be online as stated)
- I will be on campus on Tuesday (including my office hours).
- I will be on campus until 11 am on Thursday. I will be leaving after EMB 265 (1045) to prepare for a presentation I’m giving at 6 pm that evening.
- I will be on campus from 11-2 pm on Friday before heading out for the weekend to work on my book.
The Last Lecture
Some of us have talked about David Foster Wallace in the last week. We’re going to continue with that theme a bit this week with Randy Pausch, who can teach you things that I can’t.
Don’t know him?
MIN 352: Last Minute Report Issues
Hey all:
Just a reminder that your presentations and reports are due tomorrow. Your reports should be COMPREHENSIVE, which means that every page should be represented (every page, not I have 10 pages that do the same thing…every page), your navigation should be set, your text should be set (is it 3 sentences, will it scroll, will it change), your images and logos should be represented…
In other words, you should know exactly what will be where, what it will look like and what it will say. If you don’t have that, you will be docked. This is a pre-plan, which means you have this completely planned out.
A pre-plan isn’t…well, I will kinda look like this.
I’ve said this in class (and on your logs and on the rubric), but I wanted to re-iterate.
Every page. Every asset. All represented. And all represented on the timeline.
That is all.
MIN 352: Wiki Stuff
Hey all:
Your developer log should be on the page named after you + if you have started a Pre-Report page on the WIki please do it in the format (yourname - same as your page - underscore prereport) I just described and move it to the Fall08 folder so all of your work is in one place.
My bad for not specifying.
Nat’l Novel Writing Month + Social Media Training
Hey all:
I’ve posted two new documents (at the VERY bottom) of the document page:
- National Novel Writing Month: announcing the kickoff event for November’s National Novel Writing Month event. I’ll be making food for everyone
This is a non-school related event, which means no grading, no editing, no expectations. Just a desire on your part to write. - Social Media Training: This two-day workshop, given over Fall Break, will teach you the ins and outs of social media. We’ll teach you how to register a URL, use blog software to start a site. Create and post audio. Post images and video. And use Web-based tools like Google Docs and wikis for collaborative work.
MIN 499 (On Demand): Academic On-Demand Press
Hey all:
This academic press should be of interest to you. Check out Carnegie Mellon’s ETC on-demand publishing house.
For the record, this is where Randy Pausch taught — and this program is the model I use for Media Informatics. Good stuff.
