MIN 499 (On Demand): Academic On-Demand Press

Hey all:

This academic press should be of interest to you. Check out Carnegie Mellon’s ETC on-demand publishing house.

For the record, this is where Randy Pausch taught — and this program is the model I use for Media Informatics. Good stuff.

Writing…

All of your writing is back to you now (I think). If you believe you’ve sent something to me + I haven’t responded…now is the time to let me know!

MIN 352: No Reading

Hey all:

I missed my reading deadline so no worries about that. I can’t hold you responsible for my missed work; however, I am ingenious so we shall be doing some reading in class on Tuesday for discussion.

Then we will cover your presentations on Thursday.

MIN 352: Usability Documents Work Now

Since Ashley is being a pain and wants the Usability Documents to actually work, I went ahead and fixed the links.

Thanks Ashley for pointing that out. If there are other broken links, please let me know :( Bad usability, bad!!!

All My Classes Are Belong To Us

Hey all:

Good Tuesday!! I’m stoked about the classes + where you’re all going (even my JOU 220 class that is FREAKED! out right now). Lots coming your ways + you’re dealing with the power outage like champs.

Questions, comments…the lectures are over (yay!) and now it’s all about you. Dig in + get to it.

Remember that your education is up to you. If you’re confused give a holler, drop a line or visit the office hours. Can’t make it, schedule something outside of class.

MIN 352: Notey Notes

Hey’all:

Just to recap. Don’t worry about your logs not being started on Monday. No power. I get it ;) My main point: don’t wait until Fridays to dump  your logs because we can’t talk about your progress on Tuesday and Thursday if that happens.

On Thursday:

  • We’re going to go over exactly what should be in your reports, which means BRING A HARD COPY of your Pre-Report with you. You should be building in in your developer log (so you can just print that out…see how that works).
  • As part of that, bring a copy of your USABILITY FORMS so we can see what you have
  • Be prepared to explain in as much depth as possible what your project will look like. If it’s nice, we’re getting out of the lab.
To get feedback from me, you have to have your developer logs updated by Thursday in class. If you come in with nothing, you’re on your own.
ANNNNNDDDD…we’ll have a little outside reading for next Tuesday, which will be posted on Thursday.

power bad; homework good

Hey all:

It’s been a rough few days with the power outage; however, we are still having class tomorrow (as far as NKU says) and the assignments are still due tomorrow. If you have an issue with the assignments/due dates, please set up a time to see me during my office hours. If you have a good excuse, I may extend your deadling.

A good excuse isn’t: the power was out. Your assignments were posted last Thursday + the power was back on at school in the morning on Monday.

But it never hurts to ask. Hang tough everyone + be good to your neighbors.

All Docs Have Been Sent

Hey all:

I’m going to be off the grid this evening and tomorrow until after the game. If you don’t hear from me until then, it doesn’t mean I haven’t gotten your email. It just means that I’m taking a few hours off.

I’ve sent all the Google Doc notes to those who have asked. Everyone should be up to speed on next week.

For now: Go Bucks! Beat USC. Go Bengals. Beat Tennessee.

Aloha means goodbye.

Ladies + Gentleman: Alex Leeds, Your Fellow Student

Here’s a video from EMB 265 Alex Leeds :)

The Visitor, Part 2

You Students…

Just wanted to give you collectively a big shout-out at the start of this semester. We’ve had a hiccup or two, but I’m thrilled by your ability to try new things that are to many of you quite scary.

Diving in + making an effort will take you a long, long way in this world.

You’ve asked questions in class; you’ve commented on the blog; you’ve sent emails; you’ve (mostly) done your work; and you’ve showed up.

That’s all I can ask for (which doesn’t mean I won’t ask for me) + if you can believe it, we’re 20 percent done with the semester. Now the real work begins in all my classes. Lecturers are mostly over. It’s down + dirty time.

Keep up the good work. Remember to put the time in + you’ll come out on the other end smarter than you before.

Aloha means goodbye.
