Availability This Week…Not So Much
Hey all:
Normally I’m around throughout the week; however, I have a presentation and some writing that needs to get done so I won’t be on campus much.
- I will not be on campus on Monday or Wednesday (my office hours will be online as stated)
- I will be on campus on Tuesday (including my office hours).
- I will be on campus until 11 am on Thursday. I will be leaving after EMB 265 (1045) to prepare for a presentation I’m giving at 6 pm that evening.
- I will be on campus from 11-2 pm on Friday before heading out for the weekend to work on my book.
Nat’l Novel Writing Month + Social Media Training
Hey all:
I’ve posted two new documents (at the VERY bottom) of the document page:
- National Novel Writing Month: announcing the kickoff event for November’s National Novel Writing Month event. I’ll be making food for everyone
This is a non-school related event, which means no grading, no editing, no expectations. Just a desire on your part to write. - Social Media Training: This two-day workshop, given over Fall Break, will teach you the ins and outs of social media. We’ll teach you how to register a URL, use blog software to start a site. Create and post audio. Post images and video. And use Web-based tools like Google Docs and wikis for collaborative work.
MIN 499 (On Demand): Academic On-Demand Press
Hey all:
This academic press should be of interest to you. Check out Carnegie Mellon’s ETC on-demand publishing house.
For the record, this is where Randy Pausch taught — and this program is the model I use for Media Informatics. Good stuff.
Writing…
All of your writing is back to you now (I think). If you believe you’ve sent something to me + I haven’t responded…now is the time to let me know!
All My Classes Are Belong To Us
Hey all:
Good Tuesday!! I’m stoked about the classes + where you’re all going (even my JOU 220 class that is FREAKED! out right now). Lots coming your ways + you’re dealing with the power outage like champs.
Questions, comments…the lectures are over (yay!) and now it’s all about you. Dig in + get to it.
Remember that your education is up to you. If you’re confused give a holler, drop a line or visit the office hours. Can’t make it, schedule something outside of class.
All Docs Have Been Sent
Hey all:
I’m going to be off the grid this evening and tomorrow until after the game. If you don’t hear from me until then, it doesn’t mean I haven’t gotten your email. It just means that I’m taking a few hours off.
I’ve sent all the Google Doc notes to those who have asked. Everyone should be up to speed on next week.
For now: Go Bucks! Beat USC. Go Bengals. Beat Tennessee.
Aloha means goodbye.
Ladies + Gentleman: Alex Leeds, Your Fellow Student
Here’s a video from EMB 265 Alex Leeds :)
The Visitor, Part 2
You Students…
Just wanted to give you collectively a big shout-out at the start of this semester. We’ve had a hiccup or two, but I’m thrilled by your ability to try new things that are to many of you quite scary.
Diving in + making an effort will take you a long, long way in this world.
You’ve asked questions in class; you’ve commented on the blog; you’ve sent emails; you’ve (mostly) done your work; and you’ve showed up.
That’s all I can ask for (which doesn’t mean I won’t ask for me) + if you can believe it, we’re 20 percent done with the semester. Now the real work begins in all my classes. Lecturers are mostly over. It’s down + dirty time.
Keep up the good work. Remember to put the time in + you’ll come out on the other end smarter than you before.
Aloha means goodbye.
National Novel Writing Month
Hey all:
No matter your writing level…if you’re interested, November is National Novel Writing Month and there is a great collaborative environment for those who want to give this a try.
There’s no grade. No editing. No anything…just writing.
I’d love to have a group give this a shot. Maybe set up some informal meet-ups to write…or even just share good thoughts of support.
There’s more info here + if you’re interested, leave a note here.
