Greetings Programs:

For those of you in the Digital Media Minor – or considering the Digital Media Minor – you can keep up with conferences, information on classes, and other related events on our new Facebook page.

Greetings Programs:

In the NEWS 397 and ICOM 375 classes, we are keeping production journals.

I would like you to package up all of your work into 1 document (please use the MARKED UP versions if you have them; the originals if you don’t), turn that document into a PDF and turn those in the DROPBOX folder:

  • ICOM 375: Production Journal PDF Packets
  • NEW 397: FinalProductionJournals

This is for 2 purposes:

  1. It will allow us to evaluate you across the entire semester (or me, if you’re in ICOM 375); and
  2. It will enable the research team to easily read through individual and group journals.

The ICOM class will have their work done by this Thursday; The TransIndy class has until one week from today.

Thanks, and great work peeps.

Greetings Programs:

In the Spring 2012 semester, I will be teaching a class on Long-Form, Digital Storytelling, in which students will:

  • Develop a long-form, magazine essay (think, 8,000-10,000 words) using the National Magazine Award guidelines for essay writing;
  • Build a simple website (e.g. WordPress) where information is collected, the process is laid bare, and your story elements and prototypes are developed;
  • Write your essay (and include video, audio, and images where needed)
  • Publish your essay on multiple platforms: ePub, Kindle Single, Print, iPad (if you can use Adobe Publisher)

The objective: teach long-form writers the skills needed to tell stories in a tablet-based, digital world.

The outcome: something like The Invictus Writers project.

Interested? Or know somebody who is?

I let you know I would be holding a LIFE AFTER COLLEGE seminar this term, and we’ve finally got around to scheduling it with the Men of Color. Everyone is welcome!

**

On Thursday November 17, I will be conducting a workshop hosted by the Men of Color about “Life After College.” In this workshop, we will go over creating a budget (which will include an interactive budget Excel sheet I’ve made for everyone), negotiating your salary, and making your way in the business world.

The workshop will start at 5 pm and will be in the Student Center Music Lounge.

Greetings Programs:

Please don’t forget to have your benchmarks in 24 hours before class, and don’t forget to have a 5-10 minute presentation about what you’ve seen in EACH of the other projects that has inspired your project. Please be clear WHICH GROUP you are referencing.

Please be prepared for Chapter 6 discussion, and a wrap up of the book. If all goes well, we’ll have our discussion outside so please have your thoughts together before you come to class.

Hey all:

Just a quick note to remind you that you should address the analytics of your site in the screencast:

  1. How you find sites
  2. Your site analytics
  3. Usability analytics

Now, there’s a good chance you won’t have much in the way of Usability analytics. One basic way we’ll take a look at usability is through a questionnaire. You can find an example of one here, my questionnaire on using eReaders/tablets to read. This is an example of a usabilty questionnaire done in the planning phase of a project.

We’ll begin constructing our usability forms on Thursday.
