JOU 220: No Class Thursday, Oct 2…but
Hey all:
The good news: I have to give a presentation to Ad2 in Cincinnati at 6 pm on Thursday, Oct 2 (Gameday in Cincinnati). You are welcome to come but it’s by no means mandatory. I’ll be discussing social media, alternate reality gaming and the media.
The bad news: your assignments that day are still do. I’m going to have a series of tutorials up for you guys
That means you have to give it a shot. WOOHOO. (No freakouts those of you afraid of computers…we’ll go over it in class — after the ethical issues).
Nat’l Novel Writing Month + Social Media Training
Hey all:
I’ve posted two new documents (at the VERY bottom) of the document page:
- National Novel Writing Month: announcing the kickoff event for November’s National Novel Writing Month event. I’ll be making food for everyone
This is a non-school related event, which means no grading, no editing, no expectations. Just a desire on your part to write. - Social Media Training: This two-day workshop, given over Fall Break, will teach you the ins and outs of social media. We’ll teach you how to register a URL, use blog software to start a site. Create and post audio. Post images and video. And use Web-based tools like Google Docs and wikis for collaborative work.
MIN 499 (On Demand): Academic On-Demand Press
Hey all:
This academic press should be of interest to you. Check out Carnegie Mellon’s ETC on-demand publishing house.
For the record, this is where Randy Pausch taught — and this program is the model I use for Media Informatics. Good stuff.
Writing…
All of your writing is back to you now (I think). If you believe you’ve sent something to me + I haven’t responded…now is the time to let me know!
MIN 352: No Reading
Hey all:
I missed my reading deadline so no worries about that. I can’t hold you responsible for my missed work; however, I am ingenious so we shall be doing some reading in class on Tuesday for discussion.
Then we will cover your presentations on Thursday.
EMB 265: Revisions Coming Back +…
Hey all:
I have your drafts graded. They will be coming back tonight. Also, at the bottom of the class Google Doc there is a section with common mistakes and corrections.
We’ll go over these in class.
JOU 220: Missing Pitches
Hey all:
Not good news for many of you. I am missing several pitches. Here is the list of folks I have received pitches from:
- Collins
- Costello
- Fiske
- Goetz
- Goodrich
- Ronnebaum
- Rothwell
- Smith
MIN 352: Usability Documents Work Now
Since Ashley is being a pain and wants the Usability Documents to actually work, I went ahead and fixed the links.
Thanks Ashley for pointing that out. If there are other broken links, please let me know
Bad usability, bad!!!
All My Classes Are Belong To Us
Hey all:
Good Tuesday!! I’m stoked about the classes + where you’re all going (even my JOU 220 class that is FREAKED! out right now). Lots coming your ways + you’re dealing with the power outage like champs.
Questions, comments…the lectures are over (yay!) and now it’s all about you. Dig in + get to it.
Remember that your education is up to you. If you’re confused give a holler, drop a line or visit the office hours. Can’t make it, schedule something outside of class.
MIN 352: Notey Notes
Hey’all:
Just to recap. Don’t worry about your logs not being started on Monday. No power. I get it
My main point: don’t wait until Fridays to dump your logs because we can’t talk about your progress on Tuesday and Thursday if that happens.
On Thursday:
- We’re going to go over exactly what should be in your reports, which means BRING A HARD COPY of your Pre-Report with you. You should be building in in your developer log (so you can just print that out…see how that works).
- As part of that, bring a copy of your USABILITY FORMS so we can see what you have
- Be prepared to explain in as much depth as possible what your project will look like. If it’s nice, we’re getting out of the lab.
